Language Reading Examination

- Any graduate student who has matriculated in one of the Divisions or Schools
is eligible to register for a Language Reading Examination. A fee of $70
is charged for each registration. A fee for an in absentia registration (see below)
is $150.
- Students who register for a Language Reading Examination, and neither
take the test nor cancel their registration, will be considered to have been absent
from the examination. The $70 registration fee will not be refunded.
- Ph.D. candidates must pass any required Language Reading Examination
at least eight months before the degree is conferred.
- Language examinations taken to satisfy degree requirements at other
schools are subject to validation by passing the University's Language
Reading Examination. In such cases, the date on which the first examination was
passed may be the date entered on the student's record.
- Language Reading Examinations are graded and recorded on academic
records as passed High Level (P*) or Passed (P). Failing grades and absences
are not recorded. Students may check on the results of their examinations
together with other grades via the cMORE web service after the quarter.
Once grades have been reported, students may inspect their papers and discuss their performances with the appropriate examiner in the Office of Test Administration.
Registration
- Students register for a Language Reading Examination during the
regular course registration period: up through the third week of the quarter.
- Mailed registrations are accepted. Students should submit the required
fees to the University Registrar with a letter requesting that registration
materials be mailed.
- Late registrations are not accepted for examinations to be taken in absentia. (see In Absentia, below).
Cancellation
To cancel an examination, the registration for it is to be dropped via the student's
respective unit's add/drop procedures by the end of the third week of the quarter.
In Absentia
- Requests to take a Language Reading
Examination in absentia must be filed with the Registrar
before the first day of the quarter. Late registrations are not accepted.
- The Bursar's Office will include the charges for a Language
Reading Examination with tuition and other fees for the Quarter. Any fee
for proctoring the examination is additional and is the student's responsibility.
- Details for writing the examination in absentia will be mailed to
the student as
soon as the in absentia request is filed.
- In absentia registrations may be canceled through the end of the third week of the qtr.
