Frequently Asked Questions
I have a restriction and have been told that I can’t order a transcript. Doesn’t FERPA guarantee that I should be able to order an official transcript?

While FERPA does guarantee a student’s right to inspect and review their education record, it does not guarantee students be allowed to receive copies of their official transcript.  If you are restricted, and you would like to review your academic history, you may view it on myUChicago or contact the Office of the Registrar to make arrangements to view your academic history.

Another University administrator has requested information about a student’s record, how can I tell if they have a legitimate interest in accessing the information?

We ask staff to use their best judgment in sharing student education record information with other staff members.  If you are unsure about releasing information to another party, whether they are internal or external to the University, please contact the Office of the Registrar at registrar@uchicago.edu or 773.702.7891.

Will a copy of my child’s grades be mailed to my home?

The University of Chicago will not send copies of students’ grades to their home addresses. Students may request transcripts to be sent to anywhere of their choosing through myUChicago.
